5 Things To Do Before You Hit Publish On Your Blog Post

As bloggers, it might seem like we always have 101 things to do. From writing content, taking photos, scheduling social media and taking part in chats, things can get busy really quickly. I've been trying to get into the habit of going through a checklist of items before pressing publish to try and make my life a little bit easier.
5 things to do before you hit publish on your blog post
01: Add alt text to all images. This is something I keep forgetting to do and something that is super handy from an SEO point of view. One of the things I do before signing off is to go through each image and check that they all have alt text. If you want to read more about why and how to do this, read my SEO for bloggers post. 02: Check links to other blog posts have been included below. I always try and include two links to other posts that are similar to the one I've written. I love using this on other blogs, it is great to get to the end of a post you really enjoyed and continue tor read similar content. It only takes a few minutes to do and just adds a little bit of user experience.
03: Spellcheck the entire post. I'm going to be honest, I rarely do this, mainly because spelling mistakes are pulled up automatically by Chrome. I've been trying to get into the habit of reading my posts back to myself. I end up writing some of them in such haste, because the ideas are literally spilling out of my head, but on reading it back, it definitely reads like I just word vomited on the page. You can't go wrong with just double checking how it reads to make it easier for the reader.
04: Make sure you have added labels to put the blog content into the relevant category on your blog and edited the permalink should you want something that is optimised a little better. This will mean that as soon as your post goes live, it'll be easy to find. If someone wanted to read all my posts on Blogging, they can easily find all the posts in one place. It also makes it easier for me to find things to link back to!  05: If applicable, schedule your post for the appropriate time. You might not do this, preferring to just publish the post when it is finished, so go for it! However, if you schedule, just double check that it is exactly when you want it for. I've had posts not go live and go live at a time other than the one I expected, mainly because I didn't double check! It only takes a second and is definitely worth it.
